Toni García Araque

Born in Barcelona, Toni García Araque started his musical training at the Escolanía de Monserrat, from which he was soloist. He furthered his training at the Conservatorio Superior de Música in Barcelona with Ferrán Sala, obtaining the highest grades. He later specialized at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Viena with Ludwig Streicher taking as well some courses with Franco Petracci, Rodney Slatford and Klaus Stoll.

He has been member of some of the most renowned Spanish orchestras, such as the Orquesta del Gran Teatre del Liceu, managing later a place as soloist player at the Orquesta Nacional de España, and is currently a member of it. He has performed as a soloist with many ensembles, such as the Orquesta Sinfónica de Bilbao, Joven Orquesta Nacional de España, Orquesta Nacional de Cámara de Andorra, Solistes de Catalunya, or the same Orquesta Nacional de España, amongst others.

He has also developed an outstanding feature as a chamber musician with many ensembles: Cuarteto Bellas Artes, Orquesta del Conservatorio de Barcelona,  Antics Escolans, Orquesta Clásica de Madrid, Orquesta de Cámara Reina Sofía, Cuarteto Cassadó, Cámara XXI, Enesco Quartet, Arditi Quartet, and alongside the pianists Katia and Marielle Labèque.

Toni García Araque carries out an important pedagogic activity in paralell to his concertistic activity, having imparted courses all over Spain, at the Guildhall School in London, Hochschule in Saarbrücken, CNSM in Paris, Capbreton, Wroclaw, Southamerica, etc. Additionally, he has been proffessor at various meetings of young orchestras  like the Joven Orquesta Nacional de España or the Joven Orquesta de Euskal Herria. He is regularly invited to form part of jurys at international double-bass contests.

He has recorded many times as a soloist for labels such as RNE and RTVE.   He has been awarded in various competitions such as the Jóvenes Intérpretes del Ministerio de Cultura, or the Concurso Internacional Nicanor Zabaleta, amongst others.

He has been professor at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía since its foundation, alongside Ludwig Streicher, Rainer Zepperitz and, currently, Duncan McTier. He has also imparted improvement master classes at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya.
