María Espada

Born in Mérida (Spain), María Espada studied singing with Mariana You Chi and with Alfredo Kraus, amongst others.

She has performed in halls such as the Konzerthaus in Viena, the Berlin’s Philarmonie, Théâtre des Champs Élysées in Paris, Concertgebow in Amsterdam, Palais des Beaux Arts in Brussels, Santa Cecilia in Rome, Vredenburg in Utrecht, and the most important Spanish opera houses and concert halls, such as the Teatro Real in Madrid or the Liceo in Barcelona.

She has worked with conductors like Mariss Jansons, Jesús López Cobos, Aldo Ceccato, Josep Pons, Antoni Ros Marbá, Juanjo Mena, Salvador Mas, Frans Brüggen, Andrea Marcon, Howard Griffiths, Ernest Martínez Izquierdo, Tamás Vásáry, Alberto Zedda, Diego Fasolis, Jordi Casas, Adrian Leaper, Fabio Bonizzoni, Christophe Coin, Eduardo López Banzo, Giuseppe Mega, Emil Simon, Carlos Kalmar, and more.

She has collaborated with ensembles and orchestras such as the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Venice Baroque Orchester, the Orchestra of the 18th century, L’Orfeo Barockorchester, Il Giardino Armonico, I Barocchisti, Netherlands Radio Chamber Philharmonic, Al Ayre español, La Risonanza and most of the renowned Spanish Symphony orchestras.

Her interventions in chamber music have led her to sing pieces from the baroque period to the XXth century, doing so in recitals with piano accompaniment as well as with other small camerata ensembles.

She has recorded for discography labels such as Harmonia Mundi, Glossa, Challenge or Naxos, amongst others.
